Introduction to Camera Framing and Camera Composition Power Point: Camera Composition
Camera Composition is the way elements of scene are arranged in the camera frame. Camera composition has the following elements: rule of thirds shot, symmetry balance shot, asymmetry balance shot , point shot, leading lines shot, shape shot, deep focus shot, and shallow focus shot. Rule of thirds shot is a guideline that places your subject in the left or right thirds in the in camera framing. Symmetry balance shot is when elements are on both sides of a center line in equal weight. Asymmetry balance shot is when the shot has unequal visual weight but the frame has a sense of balance. Point shot shows where a character is looking at. Leading lines shot is where natural or human made lines lead the audience's eyes through a photograph to the subject of an image. Shape shot is the capturing of the two dimensional appearance of objects. Deep focus shot captures foreground, middle ground, and background all in sharp focus. Shallow focus keeps one part of an image in focus while the rest is out of focus.
My media studies teacher assigned student to a group of pairs where my partner was Melanie A. Our assignment was to create a power point on camera composition elements examples in movie scenes, their purpose and their effects. Melanie did the first slide while I conducted the second one. I analyzed the camera composition elements: leading lines shot, shape shot, deep focus shot, and shallow focus shot. I researched scenes in movies that fit the description and visual of the camera composition elements, stated key points of the shots, action lines, and defined the shots. I learned the large effects of camera composition and how certain shot sizes enhance certain elements of a scene and bring more meaning to the scene.
