Preliminary Exercise 6: Digital Camerawork Organizer: Shot Sizes

Image
Shot sizes is how much of the setting is displayed within a given frame of a video, photo, or animation, hence the size of the shot. There are nine shot sizes that are: extreme close-up (ECU), close-up (CU), medium close-up (MCU), medium -shot (MS),medium-full shot (MFS), Full Shot (FS), Long Shot (LS), Extreme Long Shot (ELS), master shot (MS). An establishing shot establishes the location and environment of a place. Its purpose is to establish mood and give the audience visual clues such as the time and specific situation. The establishing shot portrays the setting of the shot which is Piper High school. It accomplishes this by showing the tables , trash cans, trees, sky, and painted letters that spell, " Piper High School home of the Bengals." An extreme close-up shot frames a subject closely its purpose is to focus on a specific portion of the subject and to signal a vital sensory moment in a scene. This example of an extreme-close up shot is showing Mel A's makeup...

Introduction to Camera Framing and Camera Composition Power Point: Camera Composition

Image
Camera Composition is the way elements of scene are arranged in the camera frame. Camera composition has the following elements: rule of thirds shot, symmetry balance shot, asymmetry balance shot , point shot, leading lines shot, shape shot, deep focus shot, and shallow focus shot. Rule of thirds shot is a guideline  that places your subject in the left or right thirds in the in camera framing. Symmetry balance shot is when elements are on both sides of a center line in equal weight. Asymmetry balance shot is when the shot has unequal visual weight but the frame has a sense of balance. Point shot shows where a character is looking at. Leading lines shot is where natural or human made lines lead the audience's eyes through a photograph to the subject of an image. Shape shot is the capturing of  the two dimensional appearance of objects. Deep focus shot captures foreground, middle ground, and background all in sharp focus. Shallow focus keeps one part of an image in focus ...

Introduction to Camera Framing and Camera Composition Power Point: Camera Framing

Image
Camera framing is defined as how you position subjects and objects in shots. It is about composing an image. Camera framing is important in film since it  can keep the viewers  focus framed on the object. Camera framing includes eight types of shots which are: one shot, two shot, three shot, four shot, crowd shot, over the shoulder shot, insert shot, and point of view shot. Single shot captures one subject, usually one person, two shot is filmed with two characters in the shot, three shot includes three characters in the frame, while four shot includes four characters. Crowd shot is a shot with a large group of people, CGI is commonly used to create this image. Point-of-view shot is shown when a character is looking at something, if the character stares into the character this shows the characters bending the fourth wall. Over the shoulder shot is shot with the camera behind an actor that is off the screen, which shows their shoulder, the purpose of this shot is to show ...

Introduction to Camerawork Warmup Exercise 1

Image
Camerawork is the art, process, , or job of cinematography, film making, and photography.  Camera work is important since it includes camera angles which can add meaning to the film and shape the audience's perspective. Camera work can also enhance  the theme and mood of the film. Cinematography is the art of making motion pictures by capturing a story visually with a camera and light, the cinematographer is responsible for this task. Two award-winning cinematographers, Greig Fraser, for the movie Dune (2021), and Linus Sandgren for the movie La La Land (2016). Linus Sandgren Greig Fraser I was introduced to Shot sizes and Camera Angles in camerawork. Shot sizes  is how much of the setting or subject is displayed within a frame of a video, photo, or animation, looking at the scope or size of the shot. Camera angles set the exact location at which the movie camera is placed to take a shot. I was introduced to camera angles and shot sizes through the following videos:...

Storyboard Worksheet #1: Shot sizes and Camera Angles; Camera Angles

Image
Camera angles are the key concept of this lesson. Camera angles  marks  the specific location at which the movie camera is placed to take a shot. Key camera angles are: high angle, low angle, overhead shot, dutch angle, eye level angle, hip level, knee level, and ground level. This is a storyboard worksheet depicting the seven camera angles : high angle, low angle, overhead shot, dutch angle, eye level angle, hip level, knee level, and ground level.   . My group was assigned to create individual stories that illustrate the camera angles and their action lines. In each seven of the camera angles my group came up with the story, documented the action lines, then drew the story while illustrating the shot sizes. This assignment helped me learned what the eight shot sizes look like and how to relates them and express them in real life stories. The assignment made me realize the effect that camera angles have on the emotion and message of the scene. The assignment is nec...
